The HypnoMenopause® Approach
As a fully trained HypnoMenopause® Practitioner, I’d like to take this opportunity to explain how hypnotherapy can help you during menopause and to answer some of the questions you might have.
If you’re reading this page, it’s likely that you’re at some stage in the menopausal transition (or think you might be). The lead up to menopause, known as perimenopause, can last several years. Menopause itself is defined as the time when you haven’t had a period for twelve months or more, after which time you’re in the post-menopausal stage. Whatever stage of menopause you’re experiencing, you might be finding this time of life difficult for several reasons and wondering how The HypnoMenopause® Approach can help.
HypnoMenopause® was featured in Psychologies Magazine. Following a five session programme, journalist Clem Felix wrote, “I feel energetic and am looking forward to the future with real excitement for the first time in years. For now, at least, I feel a long way from needing HRT”. HypnoMenopause® creator, Dr. Claire Jack, writes regularly about the menopausal transition for online magazine, Psychology Today as one of their in-house experts. I have received accreditation as a HypnoMenopause® Practitioner through Dr. Clare Jack's course.
We are now well aware of the physical symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes and night sweats. However, it is the uncertain emotional changes, such as irritability, mood swings, anxiety and depression that are harder to identify and navigate. Are you struggling to manage menopause symptoms? Is it getting harder to juggle demands of work and family within the haze of brain fog? Are mood swings affecting your relationships? Are you feeling more sensitive and vulnerable than usual?
Women experiencing menopause symptoms can have a wide range of feelings and experiences, as menopause affects each individual differently. However, common emotions and sensations that women may experience during this transitional phase including:
~ physical discomfort from a range of physical symptoms,
~ loss and grief,
~ uncertainty and anxiety,
~ loss of control
~ self- consciousness.
Women experiencing severe or persistent symptoms should initially consult their GP to explore appropriate treatment options. It's essential to note that while hypnotherapy can be a valuable adjunct therapy for managing menopause symptoms, it's not a substitute for medical treatment.
Reclaim yourself!
Hypnotherapy treatment for menopause symptoms would be a bespoke approach tailored to address individual feelings and experiences. Several techniques can be used to reduce symptoms and empower women to gain control of the transitional phase. Relaxation treatment and skills can have long-lasting effects on a woman's overall stress levels and emotional well-being, these skills consequently improve sleep quality and induce more restful nights.
Hypnotherapy focuses on the mind-body connection, recognizing the influence of thoughts and emotions on physical health. By addressing underlying psychological factors contributing to menopausal symptoms, hypnotherapy can potentially alleviate their impact on the body. While hypnotherapy itself doesn't directly influence hormonal levels, it can help regulate the stress response, which in turn may have a positive effect on hormonal balance. Chronic stress can exacerbate menopausal symptoms, so by reducing stress, hypnotherapy indirectly supports hormonal equilibrium.
